Pickering & Dmc are proud to be running the British Grasstrack 250/350cc championship on Sept 26th, on the A169 Pickering to Malton road, opposite Pickering showfield. This is a late decision as the club are helping out after the meeting was turned down by another club due to various reasons. The meeting will hopefully have some form of support classes, though this will be clarified as soon as details are known. All other queries, post code, etc etc etc, will be answered if possible, as soon as i get information to give. The Hill climb this Bank Holiday Monday at Kilburn, is open to allcomers, with hopefully a good few of yourselves supporting it, bring whatever you have, and enter on the day if you have not previously entered. The September 12th grasstrack at Riseborough, will again feature another round of the Top Gun championship, enteries to be confirmed, include Tim Greig, series leader, Adam Carrison, previous round winner, Adam Ward, currently 2nd in the championship, and talk of Mark Whitelam, John Cox, Russ Smedley and a whole host of fast guys apppearing, including Jamie Rodgers i'm told. The man of the trail class this year at Pickering has been Adam Carrison, so can he take control of the Top gun series??? will be good to see. Best of luck to Rob Bradley/Shaun Simpson, at the international Lincolnshire Poacher this Bank Hol Sunday in the 1000 Sidecars .
There will be a trial at Kilburn on Sun 29th August, and a Hill Climb, the 1st for around 50yrs plus!!!!, also at Kilburn on Mon 30th August, The Hill climb set up days for the track etc, are Sat/Sun 28th/29th August.
| Ey Oop, Another fantastic Riseboro track, no dust, smooth as you can ever get, and around 450 yds, provided a great stage for the Northern boys to lock horns on. The racing had some great moments, with Youth riders in the Mx 2 series Lewis and Kurtis Scarboro swapping places all day, for 1st and 2nd, and equally, Declan Brown and Luke Stillborn for 3rd and 4th places. In Mx 1 the pee wee riders had some good scraps, with Leon Flint, Danny Miles, trading places, and girl rider Tegan Brown only a short couple of bike length behind all day, with her revenge coming in the Handicap final, they gave her a small start, and she blasted away to victory on her KTM 50, with out ever lookin like losing the lead. Youth Sliders wereagain really good, with Lewis and Kurtis Scarboro trading places all day, hard to say who was the best hunter/hunted all day, behind Dec Brown held off Danny Miles. 250's saw Wragbys Ricky Scarboro scorch from the tapes every race to win by the proverbial mile, till the final, when he got away in 1st, but really had to be on his toes to keep back Hulls Mark Williams, who had a great battle getting by Micky Allen, and Brother Gordon williams, you could have thrown a blanket over those boys behind Ricky for the entire 6 lap final, great stuff, and all going on only 2 bike lenghts behind scarboro. 350's 2v upright were grouped together with Consetts Jon Shipley winning easily on his 2v RMS Jawa, over 350 rider Matt Stubbings, making his debut on a 350 Nutrak, and GM engined upright rider Mike Lyden, tho Lyden had a fantastic final, really racing Stubbings hard, 100% effort, and good to see. 500's had Lincolnshire star Mike Faulkener, Stockport brothers Andrew and Steven Taylor, and the star of liverpool, David Radley absolutely setting Riseboro on fire, the racing in the heats thru to the final was just of the highest order, typically with Andrew Taylor leading for 2 to 3 laps, then fading with energy, usually letting brother steven take the lead with Faulkener and poor gating Radley doing impressions of Tomasz Gollob right around the outside..............superb, and Steve Taylor took the 1st 2 heats, but in the 3rd heat, the star of Liverpool showed just why he is Paul Cross memorial champion, by storming into the lead on the last lap. In the final, Radley again had to work hard, and it looked as tho S Taylor was going to win, but the sheer speed of Radley into the pits turn just blew you away watching, and he went on to take the lead on the last lap to win. Notably, Radley was set of last in the handicap final later in the day, and in the tradition of all great racers, just picked off riders one by one to win on the last lap, and on the lap of honour of all finalists, the very large crowd for a pickering meeting made so much noise, cheering, clapping, and blowing car horns to show their appreciation, and that was a mark of how good the day was. In the Top Gun Trail rounds, Tim Greig, on a slightly misfiring Honda 450, made the start every time, but within a lap, Pickering track expert, Adam Carrison, also on a Honda 450, usually passed him entering the pits bend, however, in the final, Greig again flew from the tapes, and looked as though he was going to win for 7 of the 8 laps, but at the beginning of the last lap, Carrison produced a stunning move on the top bend to narrowly win, much to the crowds delight. Greig had the last laugh, winning the trail handicap, again setting off 2nd from the back, and never shutting off for the race, to win on the final bend, from a very hard chasing Carrison, and Tony Flint, who most people thought was going to hold on for a win on his KTM 280. A great days racing. 250's 1st, Ricky Scarborough, 2nd, Mark Williams, 3rd, Micky Allen, 4th Gord Williams, 5th, Lee Gray, 6th, Jon Curtis. 350's/2v/upright. As report 500's 1st, Dave Radley 2nd, Steve Taylor, 3rd Mike Faulkener, 4th, Andy Taylor, 5th, Gary L'anson, 6th Mike Watson. Trail, 1st Adam Carrison, 2nd, Tim Greig, 3rd Paul Reynolds, 4th, Terry Hall,5th, Tobias Hosker, 6th, No8. Next Meeting Sept 12th, entrys to David Brown, 01904 622274. ![]() |
There are some trials and grasstrack racing coming up in August, September, i will keep fixtures page updated, Next Trial is This Sunday, 8th August, 11am start, Cow house bank, Helmsley. Grasstrack, is Riseboro, Aug 15th, 1pm start. Well done to Rob Bradley/Jamie Rodgers for their 2nd places in the Masters, and get well wishes to Paul Cooper, after his accident down there at Rhodes Minnis.
A reasonable entry in 250's and 500's made up for a dissapointing entry in the 350's, youth and trail classes this afternoon at Riseborough. 250's saw an unbeaten performance from David Knowles on his KTM, with grass returnee Ricky Scarboro chasing hard, though not quite getting level, on a 250 2 stroke through the heats.Mark Williams was on a new 250 JRM Antig, and as the afternoon wore on, looked faster and faster, certainly as fast as he was on his 2 stroke in previous seasons. The 4 stroke looks to be a winner for him soon.350,s/2valve class saw Andy Mellish in unstoppable form in the heats, making some unusual quick starts. Josh Birkett did the chasing along with John Shipley, But Andrew was just too smooth and fast. However, Josh Birkett won the final, as Andy Mellish was a no show due to a cracked piston i'm told. 500's was just so fast vall afternoon, with Steven Taylor going so fast and smooth, and gating well too, with Jon Smart showing real speed, along with Arlo Bujeja, the Australian, looking quick, but gating poorly, and a rare apperance from Liverpool star David Radley, who on missing the gate in the heats, provided so much passing and speed to thrill the crowd, which was a healthy size, with some superb passes around the outside. Trail class was poorly supported, with Adam Carrison from Hull not being troubled at all to win all day. Youth sliders saw Kurtis Scarboro win easily, and in the Youth MX class, Kurtis, and brother Lewis were battling hard all day, with super close racing. There was a new sidecar outfit, 1000cc R/H appeared in practice, former driver Paul Hebden, from Hunmanby, Bridlington, who has not raced for 35 years, with new passenger, Chris Holberry, from Pickering. They lasted 3 laps, till they turned the outfit over, and damaged it. It would be good for all the other club sidecar boys to come and race again, as Paul would love some body to race against, and also, it would be good to see a northern revival again, as we last saw in the early 90's when sidecars were very thin on the ground. A real Highlight of the day was 40's to 60's racers of repute, Ken Mellor, and Peter Lloyd, both in their 80's now, meeting each other again for the 1st time in 50 years, and being interviewed by myself. Both were top grass and speedway racers, who won many meetings and races, also centre championships. Ken went on to Captain Aldershot on the speedway, as well as race for southampton. Peter rode for Poole Speedway, and Newcastle, and Middlesborough. Ken has written a book on 50's 'grasstrack in the dales' as its called, and he brought a lot of copies with him, which all sold out. The prestigious Paul Cross memorial trophy was raced for in the 2nd half, which David Radley won in style, with David Knowles almost sneaking by on the last corner when a few back markers nearly got in the way. The finals were all good, Knowles 250's, 350's was easy for Josh Birkett, as Andy Mellish had problems and did'nt show. 500's saw the race of the season so far as Paul Taylor made a blinder of a gate to lead for over a lap, then Steven Taylor, at that point unbeaten, blasted by his brother to take the lead, but never far away was a better gating David Radley, who produced a stunning move right around the outside of taylor, to speed away and win. Jon Smart nearly got by Taylor on the line, but gained a good 3rd, which after winning the 500 final in June, will sit him well for the centre championships. Ex speedway racer, and not so young, Rob Grant rode well in the 500 final to get an impressive 4th, though in the Paul Cross races, he high sided badly, fortunatly not hurting himself. Regular heat winner at Pickering, Mike Yeadon, however, was not so lucky, breaking a coller bone on the top bend near the end of the meeting. Results.....250's 1st David Knowles, 2nd, Ricky Scarboro, 3rd, Mark Williams, 4th, Gordon Williams, 5th, Micky Allen, 6th, Antonio Worrall. 350's 1st Josh Birkett, 2nd, Jon Shipley, 3rd Peter Wyldbore, 4th Mike Lydon 500's 1st David Radley, 2nd, Steven Taylor, 3rd, Jon Smart, 4th, Rob Grant, 5th, Will Bratley, 6th, Darren Smart. Trail, 1st Adam Carrison, 2nd, Matt Stubbings, 3rd, Mike Yeadon, 4th, Tony Flint, 5th, Tom Wright. Youth Slider, 1st Kurtis Scarboro, 2nd, Dan Miles, Youth M/X 1st Lewis Scarboro, 2nd Kurtis Scarboro, 3rd, Leon Flint 4th, Joseph Nowell, 5th Luke Stillborn 6th Dan Miles. Crackin meeting at Haygate Lane yesterday, Best wishes to Mike Faulkener for a speedy recovery, he has rib and shoulder injuries, but has been released from Hospital. Also glad to report that Jamie Rodgers and Rob bradley are recovering, and should be fit for the Masters in Cornwall next weekend. The action at Pickering was superb, 250's saw good racing with David Knowles not having his own way,,being beaten in a heat etc, Richard Lively, Mark Williams, Bryan Pillow all racing hard at the top of the class. 350,s was Steve Morris back to his best, tho the loss of Faulkener was a blow, and Andrew Whitaker was sharp all day. 500's was all Rodgers, but Barry Darrell, and Rob Bradley pushed hard at times, as well as Will Bratley, and Scott Anderson on occasions. Trail was Ben Wells at his best, tho he had to race super fast in the final with Jamie Rogers, when a coming together saw Rogers fall hard, injuring his wrist, but it seems there is hopefully no lasting damage. Graham Charlton was quick, as well as Ben Worrall. Youth Slider saw the fast starting Sam Patchett make the Scarboro brothers, Lewis and Kurtis work real hard, with Lewis winning them all, and Kurtis 2nd. Youth MX1 class saw Luke Flint win from girl rider Tegan Brown on the little 50cc machines, MX2 class was good with Loris Hunt the guy to beat, tho the Scarboro brothers chased hard all day, in a well supportrd class. No sidecars today, but they will be back in a fortnight at The Marishes venue, on the A169 Malton Pickering road, regs available from David Brown, tel 01904 622274.
Don't forget the grasstrack in a couple of weeks time at Haygate Lane, Pickering. See fixtures list, enteries to David Brown, tel 01904 622274.
The Lincs International Poacher 2009 was a superb meeting, with some of the stars missing, the one's that rode provided excellent racing, from the international solos to the Elite solos, and of course Britains premier sidecar crews...........Joe Screen, who often doesn't deserve the bad postings on the internet sites, regarding his riding off from some meetings in the past, answered his critics in style..............by blowing the opposition into the weeds at Wainfleet, and a superb defense of the sidecar crown by Myles Symonnds and Kevin Woodly..............great racing all day, see the photos from this meeting in the gallery.

I have just paid for another 2 yrs for the domain name for this site, as i wouldn't want it to die, so if any one wants to take the site on, please call me, if not i will keep dates on etc, as i know of them, as a service to the supporters etc of Pickering & Dmc. Just to explain, health wise, i am still ok, it really is just a matter of being absolutly exhausted with work etc by the weekend, and i genuinely do not have the energy to do a satisfactory job for the club. If at any point in the future, i can help, and have the energy, i will help. I hope to attend some meetings this year, and meet you all again, and have some fun, and wind one or two up again for good measure.
Hi, For personal reasons, i am unfortunatly not involved with Pickering & Dmc anymore, i will be paying the re-newal fee to keep this web site alive, as expiry is the end of Feburary on the server. If any one wants to take over the web site, please ask, and something can be sorted i guess. Thanks to all of you, i have enjoyed my time with the club, and within the sport. All riders, have a safe 2009 season racing, trials etc, and every body, enjoy the season. Regards........SDA

NEW Dates added to grasstrack calender for the Northern scene.......the dates have just been announced by the Yorkshire Grasstrack club, i have added these in the fixtures page.
I have just added in the fixtures tab, all the proposed Lancashire JGTRC grass/speedway challange dates, this will help in the formation of a northern season, please try and support both clubs, Pickering & Dmc of course, and Lancashire too.
Back from Australia now, all the new dates for Moto X, Grasstrack, and Trials, are in the fixtures list, these are provisional, and along with the dates are the post codes, as supplied by David Brown.................a belated happy new year to all members, riders, sponsors, and helpers, supporters etc, may it be a safe, healthy, good one for you all.
Paul Cooper has confirmed he will be riding for the Shefffield Tigers again in 2009, his 5th campaign for the south Yorkshire club. Paul will start in the main body of the team, but is very keen on putting pressure on the heat leaders to try and gain a heat leader slot during the season. Paul has stopped all the rumours doing the rounds about him leaving Sheffield, stating that Sheffield was his number 1 choice, and the popular rider rider will have pleased a lot of fans on the terraces with his inclusion for 09.
I will not have access to the software to load this website with any news etc, from Sunday 14th December, till early Janurary 2009. So, from all at Pickering and DMC, have a very merry Christmas, and a Happy New year. Don't forget, any riders interested in the Inter centre championships in 09, e-mail me.
The re-introduction of the Inter centre grasstrack championships in 2009 by the Dunmow club looks to be taking off, with to-date 7 centres interested in running. I'm not too sure yet whether East Yorkshire will be sending any teams, though one rider who has indicated he wants to be considered for selection is former 500 Grasstrack racer, Ben Wells, who finished with grass after breaking both Legs at a Worcester meeting 3 yrs ago. Ben has indicated he would be willing to ride again in any solo class, providing he could locate good machinary. Interesting............Any Riders in our centre who would be interested in riding in the Inter centre championships, either in 250/350/500 solos, and 1000cc R/H sidecars, e-mail me on simonduke@hotmail.co.uk or one of the above.
